Each one of them so young and bold

A bunch of lonesome and very quarrelsome heroes
were smoking out along the open road

– Leonard Cohen

It’s a sinister meeting in a sinister street
with the smashing of all the wine bottles sounding
that were cracked over people’s heads here.

And what were those winners of tomorrow
losing here today? I’m going to relish
the thought of dying in somebody’s car

whose bad driving habits I’ve known
for years, whose recklessness in
sacrificing his life and other’s lives

for the ephemeral passing of one car
I’d always admired somehow, foolishly.
